Checkerboard Cake

Checkerboard Cake Pan Set
Well... Now that I have a blog, I should share my first experience with Nordic Ware's Checkerboard Cake Pan Set.

First off, baking is in my blood... but I am not quite as polished as my Nana. :) Hopefully one day I can learn all her secrets.
I do not own this picture.

In the box that I received from Amazon.com were three 8" round pans, and one "bulls eye-like" insert.

It was recommended that your grease both the pans & the insert.

I didn't take a photo while I was filling the pans with the insert in the pan, but the idea is to hold the insert down with one hand and pour, or spread, (depending on the consistency), the cake mix.

Since there are three cake pans, you must fill by alternating the colors. If you choose to have the cake look like the first photo, then you would have two pans that were poured with (chocolate, vanilla, chocolate) and one with (vanilla, chocolate, vanilla).

But- I found out that because I had only two vanilla Duncan Hines cake mixes, I had to add cocoa powder to the cake mix and turn it into a chocolate cake, and it made it pudding-like (not recommended). So my cake was backwards from the box image.

To the left is the three pans filled with the alternating colors.

I put them in the oven for the time on the box, but I still kept an eye on them. I removed when the time was up and a toothpick came out clean from the center of each cake.

Despite the icing running off the cake (I never said I was good at this) *my brother helped with the decorating* I think that it turned out alright.

But... I still don't understand something that happened.

When the cakes were cooling- the rings pulled apart, I am not sure if it was because of the grease on the insert (I needed it so I would come out of the cake), or if there was another reason... Guess I will just have to try again.

*Tip. Do NOT buy the 99cent icing at the store... YUCK!*

Find an amazing recipe and make your own icing, it will taste so much better.
My little cousin loves sprinkles :)

*BONUS*

White Chocolate dipped pretzel rods.

Here is what you need:

Pretzel rods
White chocolate almond bark
(& if children are present SPRINKLES)

I hope you enjoyed my first attempt at the Nordic Ware Checkerboard cake pans!

Until next time,

Miss Meg

Proverbs 4:20-27

I was on my phone between my classes yesterday and I stopped scrolling when I saw an image of a person making a heart out of their fingers. *you've all seen a type of this on the Internet somewhere* But what stopped me was the verse on the image...

*I do not own this picture*

 Proverbs 4:23 HCSM
"Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life."

While I know this stood out to me- I thought "what's the context for this verse?" So I read the whole chapter.
And then it made better sense than when I read it on the Valentine - like picture.

The final section of the chapter is sometimes referred to as "The Straight Path"

Proverbs 4:20-27
"My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. Don't lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to one's whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life. Don't let your mouth speak dishonestly, and don't let your lips talk deviously. Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead. Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established. Don't turn to the right or to the left; keep your feet away from evil."

What amazing advice. This chapter is fatherly advice at its best. Whether you are male or female- this is for you. Wisdom is something that should be cherished.

Until next time,

Miss Meg

Miss Meg's Debut

Hello Bloggers!! While I have always loved to write- I have to give the idea of a starting one to my best friend (and cousin), Heather Lauren. Check out her blog Daisies and Things, click her name to go to her blog. Believe me- you'll love it! :)

I was debating for a few days what I could possibly talk about in a blog, what with all the amazing bloggers already out there, and then Heather said "what are some things you like? and then use a phrase that describes all of it" and that's how Country Conservative Christian came into existence.

My life is wrapped up in those three words. I'm from the country, I'm a conservative, and I'm a Christian.

While most people put their names on their blogs, I'm going to just be Miss Meg to all of you, and I hope that I can get to know any and all of my readers. :)  *when I have some* haha!

As you can tell from my title- I will talk about things in my life, post photos I've taken, talk about some select Bible verses, and talk about some Conservative viewpoints that are near and dear to my heart.

Until next time,

Miss Meg
